My kids are in chassidish cheder system and the English curriculum is what it is.

They bH enjoy reading and I would love to get them history and science books to read and learn.

Does anyone have good, clean recommendations that I could buy?

Thank you!

I direct the general studies program in a chassidishe cheder. I have a lot of ideas for you. How old are your boys and what is their current reading level?

What is their reading level? My 9 year old is an advanced reader and LOVES the Makif. We also are frequent visitors to our jewish library.

Thank you so much, both! I can't figure out how to quote from two different posts, sorry.

I have boys ages 8-12.

Their English vocabulary is not great, due to growing up in an non English speaking country, though we have since moved.

I'd say the 12 year old is on a 6th grade reading level.

The ones that read the most are the 12 year old and the 9 year old, the 9 year old is probably on a fourth grade level. The other two aren't great readers. So I would focus on the 12 and 9 year old.

The I Survived series of books by Scholastic is fantastic. The stories are historical fiction and very engaging. Very clean content.

The 4 part book set "Story of the World" is an amazing set. It tells the story of the history of the world from the times of Avraham Avinu. It reads like a novel. It is Christian, so requires some censorship.

For science, I highly recommend subscribing to KiwiCrate or TinkerCrate. You will receive an exciting monthly box with all of the supplies to create amazing projects. It comes with a great magazine connected to the topic of the month.

The DK children's encyclopedia series. (The "My First" series is great for the 8-10 age bracket).

Anything National Geographic for kids.

Boys also like the Greetings from Somewhere series.

I have a lot more, but this is a great start.

Thank you so much!!

"I survived", I think some are better than others, no? Is there a place to get these books for cheaper, even used...

"story of the world" sounds good, but I would assume needs lots of censorship, no? And I don't even know what needs to be censored as I'm not much of a history buff myself. I'm scared to allow them to read non-true facts...

Is the magazine that comes with the ...crate, completely clean?

What do you mean by anything national geographic for kids? Like what?

Beige, thanks so much for your help!
I ordered the kits, excited for them to arrive!
If I post with my username would you be comfortable sending me a pm for future ideas?

No pressure...

This is amazing! My son is in a Heimish cheder, 9 years old and is reading on a 2nd grade level.
