I switched some kids to Healthfirst and some to empire Blue Cross Blue Shield- depending on specialists or dentists needs.
You can start off with one and then change if you end up needing to see a dr in a different network. Most plans offer pretty much the same though so any plan should work beh. You can call yelled vyalda to see if they can direct you on your specific needs (I don’t know f’sure if they this- but someone had given me this suggestion in the past- so passing along)

I use Dr. Rivka Stein and Dr. Kaplovitz and although they don't take United Healthcare right now, as of January 1st they are switching to join Dr. Diamond's practice and will be taking United Healthcare from Jan 1 and after.
I don't know if Dr. Diamond takes United Healthcare now or not as I haven't used that practice.
If you specifically want to keep United Healthcare and you can wait until January, then that would be a good choice.
I am extremely happy with both Dr. Stein and Dr. Kaplovitz. Dr. Stein is a member of imamother.com so if you edit your post title or make another post specifically asking about her practice I am sure she can respond with questions.
Aside from a 9 month lock period which happens sometime within the first year of choosing an HMO plan for the first time (don't remember details of that exactly. I think if you first get Medicaid approved, or a new child is born, they give you 3 months to decide if you are happy with that HMO plan. After those 3 months, if you don't ask to switch then you must stay with that plan for 9 more months, and you can finally switch plans at the 12 month mark),
Normally anytime you call Medicaid to switch HMO plans if you call between the 1st and the 15th of the month it will switch effective for the 1st of the following month. And if you call between the 16th and 31st of a month it will swith only the 1st of the month after the following month.
So for example: if you call today November 13 to switch insurances you should have the new insurance active and effective by December 1st. But if you only call next Monday on the 18th of November your new plan will only begin January 1st.
Feel free to respond with questions if I wasn't clear.
Also if you are during a 9 month lock period there is still a slim possibility of switching plans but it would be a hassle and you would have to have doctors fill out forms advocating why you medically must switch plans right away.
Also, I think the Medicaid number to call to ask to switch plans is 1-800-505-5678 as that's the number I see I have saved and I switched away from United Healthcare in July.
Perhaps other imas can verify if that's indeed the correct phone number.
Good luck!

Dr Diamonds office is becoming a zoo, and you're just another number there. Especially with the upcoming changes. Some drs are great, some not. Although I'm there, and meanwhile I'm happy, I would not recommend anybody to switch over to them. I don't feel like I have a real connection with any Dr there. And I'm there for a very long time! I tried so hard to form a connection, but if they have 2 locations, and every Dr has their day in each office, it's very hard to form a connection.

I do it too but it's rediculous. Also, they're so big already, that I don't feel like a patient I feel just another number. And not everybody goes to both locations. I don't either all the time, depending on what's wrong with the kid.

No.I do the same thing and that is how you form a connection with the drs. There are only 3 drs that I see in that group not that I dont like the other ones but I have more of a connection to a specific 3.
