... how? Pesach is still six months away! What can you clean that will still be chometz free in six months? (Seriously - I am not being mouthy, I really don't understand.)

My first thought: that is assur in cheshvan.

My second thought: what is the point? Won't it get dirty again? I don't start actual cleaning before tu bshvat, or even adar. Menu planning so I can order food can be done in advance, not cleaning.

OP, my first reaction, I bet you're thinking 5780. You slacker, you.
Then second reaction: cleaning or decluttering?

Either way, kol hakavod.

I started Pesach cleaning a few weeks ago already.

Maybe OP's health isn't good. Maybe she has a large house. Maybe she doesn't have a lot of help. Maybe she knows the price of extra cleaning help goes up the closer you get to Pesach. Maybe she is detailing her house.

Iy"h, all my rooms will be finished by the end of the year except for rooms that are meant for food like the kitchen, dining room, sukkah room, and the Pesach kitchen. Those will be cleaned a couple of weeks before Pesach.

You mean after yom tov closet orginazation?

That is so normal & actually a practical thing to do now so not to have so much clutter, comes pesach.
Also now is a change of season so a changeover of wardrobe/closet is in order.
All closets are now stuffed & topsy turvy from yom tov, where you needed shorts for 90 degree weather, and long & jackets for the in between weather & the coats for simchas Torah at night....
Now is a good time to check what everyone outgrew from past season, what you still need for the winter & what you can stock up on Black Friday, throw out the garbage stuff that will be replaced etc.

Good for you!

10 points for you, dankbar. You always got a good word on your lips...
Yup, stickers for all of you who are ahead of the game organising your house and putting a sign on the door: no entry- pesach is almost here!
Pesach cleaning before Chanukah parties, great idea...
OP, have you got young kids?
I'm usually lucky to find cookie crumbs in the weirdest hiding places erev pesach, after I clean.

I think if you don't have little kids at home, then you can. I know my grandmother plans to start on her attic soon-she doesn't have little kids to worry about putting chometz everywhere-she's going to go through the closets etc-more of a sort out really.
Me on the other hand-I think it's futile cleaning for pesach even just before. The kids put food in all sorts of funny places.

It isn't practical for most people, who still plan to celebrate Chanukah and Purim, to Pesach clean now but there are ways to start preparing. Do you need small appliances for Pesach? Check out black Friday sales. Because the non Jews have holiday sales, foil, sugar, coffee (needs to be KLP) cocoa powder, etc will be cheaper possibly than frum stores will be before the holiday. Clothes and linens go on sale in January and there is no reason to wait until the day after Purim to buy white shirts, ties, yarmulkes, girls tights, etc.
Also, if your son is coming home from yeshiva or daughter from seminary, make all necessary medical and dental appointments now because everyone else is doing the same thing.

I'm moving into a new apartment next month, and it has a lot more kitchen cabinets. Because of my financial situation, I can't afford to throw out an unopened package of pasta or crackers.

When I unpack I'm going to put all of the chometz in one cabinet, and be careful about it. Then when the time comes, all I have to do is sell it and tape it shut. One less thing for me to stress about. Very Happy
