I was asked to make a veggie for a kimputerin. We neighbors are all making something and I was asked to do a hot vegetable. We usually have green beans as a side Friday night. Is that okay? Also how much to send for a couple and 2 kids that probably don’t touch it cuz they are 2 and 3

It’s my go to. Hard to think of another option that’s as universally well liked

Why wouldn't string beans be okay?

Why wouldn’t it be? To make it fancier throw in cherry tomatoes and mushrooms.

For 2 adults a half a package will do I believe.

I give mine a quick stir fry in olive oil, and a dash of garlic salt. The oil and salt are important, because it keeps the beans from going soggy, losing color, and getting bland.

Kids love them, because they are "finger food".

I would do a half a package of frozen, if the rest of the meal is going to be substantial.

Absolutely! I use fresh. Dont overcook and season with sesame oil and sesame aeeds. Always finished. If they have yellow ones I do a mixture, which looks extra nice.

We call them 'green French fries' in our house. The kids gobble them up! We add fresh sliced garlic at the end of cooking with soya sauce. No sesame here because of allergies.
Yum!

I like that idea! Do you have a recipe or method to cook the tomatoes and mushrooms?

I make that all the time for Shabbos or Y"T. I like the Hanover frozen green beans as they have an O-U, and they go on sale in Shoprite every so often, sometimes down to .99 a package. When that happens I stock up - you can get 4 of each kind, and they have petite green beans, whole green beans, french cut, etc...so I grab a bunch for my freezer.

I just drizzle with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder or a cube or 2 of the frozen garlic. I find I can just stick it in before Shabbos when the oven goes on to keep-warm, and it's done for the meal.

Sometimes if I'm trying to stretch it for more people, I add a can of baby corns, chopped onion, mushrooms, colorful peppers, etc.....which makes it more of a vegetable stir-fry.

I would send the whole package to the neighbors, because I always figure this way they'll have leftovers for Sunday....when DD was born, my SIL made me enough food for Shabbos for the Russian army, I asked my BIL if she sent her own stuff by mistake (she has a large family B"AH), and it was so great because nursing makes me starving, and whenever I was hungry that week I just heated up some food.....

Saute mushrooms with garlic for 5 minutes then add cherry tomatoes 1-2 minutes.

On a baking sheet lay the string beans and throw cherry tomatoes and mushrooms (you can use canned in a pinch.)

Keep it simple.
Olive oil
Salt
Pepper

Bake 375’ 25 minutes or until crispy

Blanching is another option.

If you are using fresh:
Bring water to a boil
Put in for 3-4 minutes
Immediately transfer to an ice bath for a few minutes.

Yummy, not mushy and doesn't shrivel.

Why not!?! It's my quick and easy go to
Though my little kids love it so I wouldn't count on them not eating it.

What I do is roast them on a baking sheet at 400 for 20-25 min with olive oil salt pepper and cut up garlic.

You can do it with baby tomatoes also to be extra fancy

Same here
I roast frozen green beans in the oven
If I add tomatoes and mushroom
I’ll put the tomatoes first with olive oil and salt
Then I’ll add the green beans and the mushroom
Sometimes I’ll add whole baby corn cut the long way, I add it after everything is cooked
