After my last baby was born, I lost pretty much all the weight, but then gained again. I tried dieting over the summer and didn't lose a pound. Then I gained over the Yomim Tovim. Now I've lost a few pounds on a diet again, but the scale won't go lower than a certain number, and it's still 9-10 pounds higher than I was before the baby.

The one thing I can think of that might really be keeping my weight up is lack of sleep. I go to sleep very late and very inconsistently. I'm wondering if that could be affecting my weight so much that I can't lose. I've never had this hard a time losing at least a few pounds in the past.

(Btw, I'm in my 20s so it's not an aging thing.)

That’s interesting... I wonder..
I find that the days I had very little sleep the night before I feel like I need to keep eating all day just to have enough energy

Totally makes sense, lack of sleep increases cortisol the stress hormone which can trigger appetite and slow metabolism...

You need to sleep to lose weight. You only actually lose weight during the recovery time from exercise. Sleep is when your body recovers. Insulin goes down and your body burns fat.

So how much sleep would I need to get a night (approximately) to still be able to lose weight?

Does it need to be 8 hours or can I get a little less?
