One stovetop for milk/dairy

For those of you with only one oven. How does it work if you use your stovetop for both meat/dairy cooking. Does it matter if it is gas/electric? Yes I will ask my lor but wondering what I am up against until he gets back to town. If you are chabad pls add if any special precautions. TIA .

I have one stovetop. If any food ever drips down, it anyways get burnt out right away.

The porcelain is tref. The grates are kosher because whatever drips on them gets burned off.

I'll be more specific.
Do you have to designate burners for meat/dairy?
Can you cook a pot of meat on one burner and pastas and cheese on the other?
Do you need to heat up the element. Before cooking? What about on a gas stove?

You do not have to designate specific burners.

You should not cook meat and dairy at the same time.

You do not need to heat up the element in advance.

We do tend to separate, but that's just based on the kitchen setup: meat cabinet is to the left of the stove and milk is to the right. Technically I believe the rule is just not to cook both at the same time.

This is what I do. Chabad.

Gas burners. No idea if electric would be different.

Plus, I consider the area between the grates treif. So any hot food that falls there gets thrown out.
