It looks like too much salt 3 Tbs for 1pound if berg and half cup of barley and several vegetables. It sounds too much...

For a 4 quart pot of soup you need 1 Tbso table salt or 1 1/2 Tbsp kosher salt.
8 quart can use 2 Tbsp table salt or 3 Tbsp kosher salt.
(Type of salt really makes a difference.)

Salt should be added to taste. I usually don’t even look into the recipe for amounts of seasoning.
