If you want to hang onto it because of sentimental value I'd say to rent it out. Otherwise donate it to a gemach. Though if it's from 30 years ago, it's prob waaay outdated... dunno what you cld do with it at this point.

I was going to sell it, but it got badly ripped during dancing, so it lives in my Mom's basement.

Mine was a custom rental. Costed over 5k to sew up. For another $500 it could have been bought. My mother didn't want to bother.
I begged her to buy it. (It would have been hers to rent and do with it whatever. Not mine.) Like everything else I ever suggested, she said I was being rediculous.

Jokes on her. My friend wore it a year later at her wedding. She said that according to the rental place, she was the 10th kallah to wear it!!!! And she paid over 1k to rent it!!!!! Oh, and about 3 years after my wedding I saw it hanging STILL in the window of the bridal place. The gown turned out to be THE gown at that place. For a while.

I sent mine back to the gemach where I got it, even had someone else do it, so I had to take it off at the hall.

My mother had hers custom made and while I wanted to use parts of it, she was just a much smaller body type than I was and the dress was not preserved well so it just didn't make sense to do it that way. When she downsized she was upset that we threw it out, but it just didn't make sense to keep it. We had the photos and the dress was no longer really useable--it was outdated and yellow in some places.

My mother A"H was an only child and her gown was made for her. After she got married, she sent her gown to E"Y for Kallahs to use there. She was told that it was worn by quite a few brides for quite a while.
