DH bought two large jars of duck sauce. I've had it few times before but don't remember exactly how.
Please help an Israeli cook figure this out.
Idealy looking for shabbat chicken ideas, but an open to anything.

I just made an easy oven pepper steak with duck sauce (from the BY cookbook).

Preheat oven to 350, and in a greased pan layer chopped onions, pepper steak, salt and black pepper, colored pepper slices, and water chestnuts (I used mushrooms instead). Mix a cup of duck sauce with 4 crushed garlic cubes and 3 TBSP soy sauce, pour over pan, and bake covered for 2 hours.

Recipes I've had that use it:
Baked schnitzel, then baked with sauce including duck sauce, cooked pepper, ketchup, brown sugar.
In the Kosher.com cooking contest, Rorie Weisberg was forced to use it IIRC and did so in her deli roll. A lot of people put in a little.

I just do it super easy-

sprinkle a little salt, pepper, and garlic powder on chicken and then pour duck sauce on. Bake at 180 C for 2 hours covered then uncovered last 10 minutes to carmelize

the other recipes sound yum tho! have some frozen baked shnitzel so might use some of that with the recipe above...what does cooked pepper mean though?

Duck sauce is my mom's secret weapon. She puts potato and onion on the bottom of the pan. Chicken. Then dumps the ducks sauce on. With a bit of mustard mixed in to cover. And bakes covered. 350 for a few hours till chicken is soft and uncovers for brown

I'm guessing you also spotted the 5 Sh. per (huge) jar deal in Osher Ad? Wink

Busy in Brooklyn has a great drunken hasselback salami recipe using apricot jam, but I sub with duck sauce. I've omitted the alcohol and it's just as good TBH. The recipe is very adaptable. https://www.busyinbrooklyn.com.....lami/

I make meatballs in a sauce made of duck sauce and water (maybe 1/3 duck sauce to 2/3 water?), and serve over rice. Delicious!

I also literally just pour over chicken and bake. No extra spices or anything.

Not, me DH.
Now I'm stuck with it.
He bought it about a month ago but I figure I should start using it up.
Don't think it was 5 shekel when he bought it, maybe it wasn't selling so well?

So the ones that we bought were the Gefen brand- reduced from over 20 sh. to 5 sh. each.
I almost never buy duck sauce b/c of the exorbitant price so I was happy to see such an amazing deal.
We also bought them about a month ago. I'm guessing that they are left over from Pesach (that is when they usually sell the Gefen products) and that is why the price is so reduced.
Truth is the Gefen is not as good as other brands that I have tried over the years. I think it's a bit thinner. But it's been a while since I've used something else....

I didn't love the Gefen brand either, but it should be fine over chicken.

Yes, the Gefen brand. What do you use it for?

You can make dark chicken capons:
put kishka and pastrami (I sometimes leave it out) in dark chicken cutlets. roll up & spice with garlic powder & paprika then spray with pam. cook for 1 1/2 hrs then pour duck sauce over and bake uncovered for 1/2 hr.
Its delicious!
