I need to give a colleague a gift and as an intellectual, deeply religious person who often asks me questions about Tanach, I would like to get her a book. (Not to be mekarev her at all, just for interest.) As a Seventh Day Adventist, she focuses strongly on the "Bible text" and isn't interested much in Rabbinical ideas that cannot "be proven" in the text. Any recommendations for a Jewish book that would be a good fit?

Maybe a book by dennis praeger? I'm not so familiar, but from what I understand he focuses on the text and finds personal meaning. (He's a conservative jew, and a biblical scholar.)

What about a chicken soup for the soul book? they are "hashgacha protis" but usually featuring non-jews.

"Towards a meaningful life" by Simon Jacobson. Great book for all kinds of people. About living life purposefully.

Why not an actual tanach?

This. When I have my best friend who is a Baptist an artscroll tanach and tehillim. She cried. And she continues to call me up and asks me questions like "my nkjv says the fourth plage is flies and the tanach says pestilence. What's the difference?"

Good idea, but she's a very serious Bible " scholar" so I have no doubt that she has all the books of scripture.
Thanks for all the ideas, would love to hear more!

Don't start with Prager. For anyone, for anything, IMO.
And it's not so pashut to teach a non-Jew Torah.
If you want a nice spiritual book, though the language is an issue in places, I like Thanks a Thousand by A. J. Jacobs.

OP isn’t trying to teach her friend Torah.

But there were a few suggestions that could be problematic.
