My teen DD who has a language-based learning disability that impacts her across the board really wants to go to sleepaway camp (in the US). I'm not sure if it's the right decision for her, though it she would have a positive experience camp could do wonders for her. I believe that in order to be appropriate for her, the camp would have to be:
BY hashkafa
smallish w/ more personal attention (might need someone to help her navigate things)
predictable schedule (she thrives on structure)
good communication with parents (we may need to work through issues that could arise)
probably more low-key, slower pace
Any suggestions? TIA!

It's probably more modern than OP wants. It's kids from MO homes for the most part.

I don't know what your daughter is like, but inside camp Sternberg, they have a special needs camp. The bunk "Heller plus" is for higher functioning kids. Not sure if that is what she needs, but they have 1:1 staff, integration with Sternberg, and higher functioning kids in the bunk. Let me know if this is the type of program you think she needs and I can give you more info about it.

Yes, Camp Kaylie sounds wonderful and would theoretically be ideal, in terms of the mix of typical and special needs, but hashkafically my DD would feel out of place.

Can you tell me more about this? She is in a mainstream school and does not see herself as special needs, which is why a Camp Kaylie-type arrangement would be ideal. Alternatively, I think she might do okay in a very small, warm camp with someone keeping an extra eye out for her.

Camp kaylie has a skirts only dress code but there is a whole spectrum of girls there. Not only MO. They are very accepting and help each child feel good about being in camp

Is camp kaylie really so modern? I know a few yeshivish families that send their girls there.

I’ve visited camp kaylie a few times- they do officially cater to all types. You will find girls in short skirts and short socks. Not all the married staff women cover their hair at all times. Def not a Bais yaakov environment overall.
