I work (as an EI therapist and seit) with kids ages 0-8. I don't have a huge budget but would like to add to my supplies to make things more exciting. I'm looking for some toys and games for those age ranges that are fun but educational as well.

My friend just started a blog https://www.besteducationaldeals.com/ where she posts deals on toys and games and writes how they can help children learn.

Make your own Mancala game with egg cartons and marbles or those round glass pieces florists use.

Make your own Scattergories by coming up with your own category sheets, and putting alphabet letters on scraps of paper to pick out of a bowl.

Charades is easy and fun.

And definitely check out yard sales, eBay, and discount stores.

I've had a lot of success on Craigslist - I've even gotten some stuff free, but you need to have patience and keep checking it.

I find that I can make almost any developmentally appropriate game into a learning experience depending what your goals are. So I just look for games and toys that are highly engaging. Recently I bought a bunch of things on sale online because they were compelling enough to just go for it. I have also had success at Amazing Savings sometimes, it's hit or miss. A bunch of my toys I "adopted" from families whose kids outgrew them. It does feel a little spendy but it's an investment in my work. I deduct it at tax time.
