We got a substantial amount of money from parents as chanukah gelt. I don't want it to get swallowed into our daily expenses. Should I put it into savings? Or splurge on something? And what? Any suggestions?

We buy something that we wouldn't normally buy or afford. Like a family Getaway, bedroom set, expensive toy, extra curricular for kids....

I do half on a splurge practical item ( cookware, big toy for baby, appliance, skirt or sweater for me etc) and half goes away in savings/ daily life

What are you working on?
Do you have debt?
Are you working towards a specific savings goal?
Are your "sinking funds" topped off?
How are your finances in general?
If you are in difficulty, put the money where you need it.
If you're fine but not great, split the money between savings and a splurge
If you're great, then splurge
