I have given notice at my current workplace. The pay was good but my supervisor is a narcissist and I couldn’t handle one more day of it. She would criticize, scream etc and make me feel bad for no reason. It was so traumatic that I just quit without finding new employment. My question is this: should I look for a new job right away or should I take time to relax and recover. I’m financially ok if I don’t work for a few months. Because of my experience I have become really anxious and I’m really nervous about handling a new job but if I stay home I’m likely to feel gross about just wasting time. What do you say

Take a week or two off then start looking. (While you look, you may still have downtime.)

Start looking now . It takes time to find the right job. While you are waiting take the time to recover. Do lots of self care. Read up on boundaries so that you know how to stand up before a narcissist or other toxic people can take advantage of you. Learn how to empower yourself . Also take care of all medical and dental appointments or other appointments you may have been pushing off. Tackle that now.

This is excellent advice. You don't need to spend all day looking for a new job. You can set aside a few hours every day and the rest can be for self care and relaxation.
