I've been lighting a candle daily lilui nishmas R Menachem Mendel Ben Yosef. I know there's a particular segulah to do it for 40 days. If I miss a day in the middle should I start the count again, or just add an extra day at the end? For anyone wondering I was told by my rav that both lighting a candle for an aliyas neshama as well as asking a tzaddik to intervene on your behalf for a yeshua are well established in Judaism and have solid sources.

As far as my knowledge is concerned I think it has to be 40 consecutive days
