We had a strange situation last week. My dc had flu but recovered really quick. A few days later spiked another fever, had a little rash on face and a red bump behind ear.
Next day fever was gone and over next 2 days the bump swelling receded. We figured it was a swollen lymph node due to virus. (We were in touch with doc who advised us to watch it and bring in to be seen if fever persists in case it’s an infection)
Then a day later dc spiked a very high fever (around 104 range) we went back to the doc & tuns out his ear was infected. Child didn’t even complain about ear! (Btw other ear than swollen lymph node which is basically gone now).
Oh and he tested positive again for flu- which I guess he’s still shedding bec it was same strain as seen exactly a week before.

Ok, any insight?
Another question- he was cranky all morn, felt warm but had no fever and then suddenly spiked a very high fever. Has anyone had this? Found it so weird...

I would be very concerned something else is going on if he was on antibiotics for the infection. Request a cbc with diff - it is a cheap blood test and gives an idea if something serious is going on or a regular infection.

No worries then imho. Prob just ear infection my kids run 103. I would be worried if fever spikes after abx kicks in.

Tnx! Bh not experienced with ear infections. Dc almost 3 and only 3rd infection. Other 2 were together with rsv so have no point of reference in what would be typical.
