Pretty sure I know the answer but...
Is it worth spending $80-90 instead of $40 for a down coat for my DS (age 6) vs a polyester one (company claims its rated for -1 thru 24 degrees, and it has 5 star reviews)?

Lands end vs abercrombie

Also... should I buy now (on sale) for next year or wait for preseason sale next year when I actually need the coat? (I know lands end goes on sale)

It’s end of season. You should be able to get s gap down coat for less than $50 (I was able to do even better than that a few weeks ago though)

Use your intuition. If your child struggles healthwise, is the cold type, has seasonal allergies
SPEND on a good coat from lands end etc.

It is more important than making a nicer meal for company.

My kids are telling me the lands end coats aren’t as warm as gap.
The past 2 years they had the good gap coats. This year they have the expedition lands end ones which is supposedly very warm. But they are convinced gap was warmer. Lands end I do better the very end of the winter season. Gap you can get deals beginning of winter.

The gap coats lasted 4 of my kid 2 whole winters beautifully. Lands end normally gives me similar mileage.

For big kids who spend a lot of time outside waiting for buses I spend on warm coats.

For toddlers or younger kids in and out of the car I go much cheaper. If they need I’ll layer a sweatshirt or blanket in the carriage.
