Finally getting to a better place after dealing with severe untreated PPD and lots of medical issues in the family. I haven't been the most present mom and I realize I've "forgotten" how to play with my toddlers. I don't have much patience and I find I can't play with their toys for more than a few minutes. I also get extremely bothered by any mess so I get aggravated when lots of toys are all over. Please give me some advice. I want to go back to being the loving attentive mom I used to be.

I don't necessarily enjoy playing at that age, but for the most part I've found that my kids are more than happy to narrate while I sit there smiling. The main thing is to actually be paying attention, not to be contributing so much.

Print out photos of inspiration (Magnatiles, lego, etc) as flashcards and offer to them. Then sit while they do it and intervene if they need help. Kids don't rlly need adults to play with them and jn fact will develop more concentration, focus and imagination if left to their own devices. Just be around.

For baby under a year - Baby's first year milestones by Aubrey Hargis. Gives ideas of toys and activities for each age. It's a great how to manual for the first year and what to look out for. Helped me a lot in the first few months of ppd.
