I know of a family who worked with him recently, paid a fortune out of pocket and was denied a written report. Written reports are extremely important for parent to have in order to track their children's progress from their baseline (the report) and have verifiable information to share with professionals who will be working with and treating their child.
I strongly urge parents that whenever they set up an evaluation they clarify that they will receive a written report that verifies the assessment results.
There are way too many therapists out there who dupe their clients by taking cash up front and then not providing the clients with vital written documentation

Wow! I had a similar experience with another person who does evals. Asked a lot of questions, paid a large out of pocket sum, but never dreamed to ask if I would get a written report. Just assumed of course I would otherwise, what's the point? When I go to the specialists recommended I don't want them to have to do an eval all over again. Surprise on me. No written reports. Please check if you will get it and beware!

Did your friend go for an evaluation or consultation? I know Dr. Mandelman does both. I was told that evaluations are objective assessments that would come with a written report and consultations do not come with a report, since no testing was done. I know Dr. Mandelman has a very good reputation and have only heard very positive feedback from people who have seen him.

I took my ds last year and paid $500.
We did not get any report. I was only told that he didn’t think my son needed to be on meds. He doesn’t treat patients as far as I know, he only assess if they should go to a psychiatrist to be on meds. At the time of the appointment I was at a loss with my son and really needed guidance. I did not feel that I got anything from that session . He wasn’t on medication to begin with and I’m sure if I had taken him to a competent psychiatrist he would have been evaluated and not put on meds anyway.
The session we had consisted of mandelman talking to my son alone, asking him questions about himself and then talking to me to tell me what he thought.
Our concerns were not educational rather behavioral. I spoke to him on the phone before I made the appointment and he said he thought he could help.
Now I’m remembering that a couple of weeks after the appointment my dh mentioned that he didn’t cash our check. I’m wondering if he ever did. I’m going to look into it. If I discover that he didn’t I’ll post back. I was crying after the appointment because I felt like I paid so much and didn’t get any help. Perhaps he realized and held on to the check.
Good luck

Did you ever follow up with him or his office? I understand that he provides letters with diagnosis and recommendations if requested. Did you let him know how dissatisfied you were with your appointment? He has a very good reputation and I know many people that he has helped.

Follow up on what? He said there was nothing wrong with my child he just needs a good therapist. There really wasn’t any diagnosis. My son was already seeing a top therapist which we were paying a fortune for. He did say if we want the therapist could call him. The therapist claimed to have tried to call a few times but couldn’t reach him.
Shortly afterwards we stopped using that therapist and started with someone else.
