Did you experience this?
My son 9 yrs old was in pain when bending over and ....and he had a bump of something protruding in the groin area.
We took right away to the pediatrician (was pa ) and she said it's a hernia.

But by the time we got an appointment with the specialist/surgeon, a week later,
The bump dissapeared.

At the surgeon's office, he couldn't see it and he told my son to jump....to try to make
It appear, but it didnt appear. So, he says he cant do anything unless he sees it. So, he said email him a picture if it appears.

Did anyone ever have this? Did anyone ever have this situation that there was a bump
At the groin area and its painful but then it dissapeared?? Was it a hernia or something else??

That means the hernia-if it's that- is reducible. Sometimes it's only seen after a full day of the kid's weight pushing down on that area. Was the appointment with the specialist relatively early in the day?

The good news is that as long as it's reducible, it probably won't get incarcerated, which is a complication you want to avoid. The bad news is that it can still be painful and annoying and can feel like you're playing cat-and-mouse with this issue and of course, it can become incarcerated at any point.

I would follow the surgeon's advice and try to take a picture. It does sound like a hernia because hernias can hide and because PA saw it and diagnosed it as that.
I would check child later in the day and see if I can get photo evidence and then schedule surgery based on that. Some surgeons recommend sewing up both sides while they're doing it because the other side can suddenly become problematic just like the first side suddenly started protruding.

ETA: I would NOT email a picture of child's private parts. I would try to book appointment for later in the day for surgeon to see for himself and would come with photo evidence in case evidence does not show up on that day. Just my feeling about this.

Yes my son had that. Once it stays stuck it can be an emergency. We scheduled the surgery before it became trapped.

It’s normal for it to go in an out, regardless of activity.

Yes. Same experience. Had the surgery. The surgeon explained that it's normal to disappear and not to wait until it became visible again before scheduling surgery. After surgery, it never was a problem again.

Get a second opinion! Don’t let this go, I know someone who had a very dangerous situation after leaving a hernia I repaired.

So are you saying the surgeon could not see it sticking out so he scheduled the surgery anyway???

Thanks everyone for replying.

So my question to you is when you had a hernia were you in pain when it was sticking out? I never heard of a hernia that "just goes away"?
