I don’t understand why we need rabbis to tell us what to do.
Why can’t we choose what we want to do with our lives?
Why do we follow everyone else?
Why are our lives at the hands of rabbis?

I’m so confused.

What, specifically, do you need rabbis for, personally?

To elaborate, what specific part of speaking to rabbis is an issue for you?

Im going to have tomatoes thrown at me, but thats ok.

OP, no, you dont have to have rabbanim telling you what to do. I grew up learning that we should be learning things on our own and then know what to do. And if not, look things up and try finding answers on our own.
Not everyone just follows everyone else to ask rabbanim everything.
I can seriously tell you that I have no recollection when the last time I asked any rav any questions.
We live our own lives and figure things out on our own.
And I promise you we are not the only frum jews out there that live this way.

You only need to ask a Rabbi if you don't know the answer, and don't know how to look it up on your own.
Sometimes if you have a halachic question where there are a lot of issues involved, and you don't have the knowledge to take everything into account, it's best to ask a Rabbi. Often you can be pleasantly surprised by their answer.

Or, perhaps, the babysitter/yichud thread?

The way I look at it is, you go to a doctor when you need medical advice because the doctor knows more about medicine than you do and can apply that knowledge to your case. You go to a rabbi because the rabbi knows more about Torah than you do and can apply that knowledge to your case.

To take it a step further, this is why it’s important to have a rabbi you trust, and with whom you are able to share pertinent information. Just as a doctor needs pertinent information to correctly advise medically.
