I would like to invest in a warm winter jacket. I can't bear the cold NY winters. What is your recommendation for the warmest (shorter) jacket out there? I'd be willing to spend up to $1K (and hopefully get a good 5-10 years wear out of it).

If you'll spend that much go straight to the top - Canada goose, moncler, mackage. But you'd do best to try on in store. Walk into Nordstrom or Bloomingdale's.
