Am I the only one who cant take it when posters quote the OP ??
Especially when the OP writes a long post .
Or when it's the first response
Any post to that thread is responding to the OP
Done venting !!! Now go ahead and quote my post

Same. I always tell my students not to rewrite the word problem I gave them. I can read. Now you respond.

I like to see at least one poster quote the OP early on in the thread because it definitely happens that the OP gets responses she doesn't like and then edits her post. Then it looks like the first few posters overreacted or read something that isn't there and later posters don't have the full story and the thread no longer makes any sense. Quoting the OP keeps it more honest, though I agree that there's no need for it to be quoted repeatedly especially if it's very long.

Quoting the whole thing is pointless and a tircha on the tzibbur , but if you’re responding to a particular portion of the post, it helps to quote that passage alone.
Nu, it would also help if imas would edit their posts to make sure they’re including only relevant information and not verbal clutter that confuses rather than clarifies. But most posts are a form of live conversation, not composition class. IOW spontaneous, unexpurgated, and messy.

Quoting the op when it’s a long post and it’s the first reply is silly. I’ve seen it happen many times.

What about bolding one line out of a snip, particularly when the op is lengthy?

Same with quoting long non-OP posts.

Couldn't resist
Occasionally, I will quote the OP when the thread has gone off on a tangent and I want to respond to the original point, or when there are specific words in the OP that I want to highlight/respond to.

Quoting the op can mean responding to the op's original question, as opposed to going the direction of other Imas.
In order to be less annoying, I DO need instructions on how to quote small parts from the op's question.
Please break it down into baby steps.

Click the quote button in the upper right corner of the post you want to quote.
Do you see how there are brackets which say quote="imanonymous" at the beginning and then brackets with /quote at the end? Those indicate the beginning and end of the words you are quoting.
So if you wanted to quote this part of my post only, you'd put in an open bracket, then quote="imanonymous", then a close bracket, then the words you want to quote, then a bracket, and then /quote, and then a close bracket. Delete the rest. You can even do this a few times within one post, with the quote/unquote sequence, your response, and then another quote/unquote sequence.

Just a couple of years ago, Yael tweaked it so that quotes only include the latest response. Those years of scrolling down though loooooong quoted conversations...oy.
