I am planning on making yapchik in the crockpot to serve shabbos lunch.
When is the best time to put it up? Thursday night, fri morning, right before shabbas?

Friday definitely not Thursday it will bo burnt by then. Make sure you have enough liquid so it shouldn't burn.
It's yum always make it as my pesach chulent

I was planning on making my regular kugel recipe with the meat. What do you mean enough liquid? I don't add liquid to my kugel batter.
Also when on friday do you put it up

No need for liquid. Put it up before shabbos. I don't use eggs or oil, just bones, meat, shredded potatoes and onion, salt and pepper.

Yes I put in a little water abt 1/3-1/2 c in a regular potato kugel recipe and it comes out delicious!

I use my regular potato kugel recipe. I bake it in the crockpot insert (layer kugel batter, meat, batter) and then put it up right before Shabbos with about 1/2 cup of water on top, on low. Comes out delicious every time!
