If you want to do the DIY route, There is a website called temptalia where literally every last makeup product is reviewed. So that can help with product quality etc.
As far as getting what looks good, I would suggest only searching youtube videos geared to your features. Some makeup artists on youtube will choose different Models each time to show different looks.
