My child was denied ot services. She really really needs it. I want to appeal. Did anyone go down that road? I live in Brooklyn.

U can hire a advocate to go with you. You can also go alone. Most times at a hearing you get what you ask for.

New York imas -- can you get OT as a stand alone service? In Maryland to can't.

In preschool yes.
In grade school, usually not. However I've had students who were mandated for 1 hour of special ed just to get them onto an IEP so they could get related services... basically there are ways to almost anything.

When you have your iep meeting state the things you disagree with, state all of your issues if possible , if possible do not sign the iep. If you already had your iep or you agree w the iep but not the placement you will need to go see the sight the doe recommends, and write up a ten day notice. Many people use a lawyer or a parent advocate who knows the process. If you can afford a lawyer I would use one as doing it on your own the first time is scary. You can pm me if you need more info
