My 4 year year old has lots of sensory and focusing issues. My pediatrician ( who just met him) thinks he has asd. He has social skills & eye contact but does have some characteristics of asd. I want to get him evaluated just dont know where to go. We live in lakewood. Also not sure what to do about school we were told to have him switched asap.

If you look in the Voice or anything else, you will see ads for various places that service kids with ASD. Give one or more a call. They can guide you.

It usually starts with a neuropsych eval, but sometimes, it's a long wait to get one.

My DD works for one of the big ASD treatment places in Lakewood, and they get calls like this on a regular basis.

There are a lot of schools that serve this population. You can call them, too.

Hatzlacha!

Just curious. Don't feel obligated to answer.

You say he has social skills and eye contact.
So what are his symptoms?
I have a son with ASD.
Got diagnosed at 7 yrs old.
Was always quirky, some learning issues, he definitely has social issues.
Was always great with adults and kids younger but not with kids his age.

He has a lot of sensory issues, he puts everything in his mouth, was always afraid of new things & noises, at school hes constantly taking things from other kids. Hes also very impulsive & cant stop himself from doing something even if he wants to. He also likes strong tasting things like salt & lemon juice. Hes a bit ocd.

Hes also very smart. Never forgets anything & asks a lot of questions. He gets very distracted & loses focus fast. He puts his hands on his ears if he doesn't like what someone says & lately he started spinning in circles a lot.

My son with ASD is a most loveable, smart, cute kid. Has some quirks....but there are great things about him too.
With all the help sounds like he can get where you live (be thankful), he iyh will do great.
If you want to speak privately I can post an email address. I don't live nearby. And sadly I don't have a school for my son
