Shmuel mandelman is a neuro psychologist in Brooklyn who is highly credentialed and a master at getting to the root of the problem. He does not treat but he will tell you where to go for help. He strictly does evaluations. Good luck

If you were to find elevated strep titers, or indications of other chronic subclinical infections, my recommendations would be exactly the same, except I would add antimicrobials to address whatever infections you are dealing with, and anti inflammatories of some sort to take down the neuro-inflammation.

I’m sorry if I sound ignorant. Can you please give me examples of anti inflammatories and anti microbials I can incorporate?

Make sure your OT is really great- not all are the same. Also, make sure to get excersise to carry over at home between sessions. My son is similar and a combination of OT and floortime made a huge difference

So I have a great OT therapist and I did incorporate exercise at home but somehow it throws him off in a negative way and he acts out so badly that I have stopped doing carry over altogether & calm reigns again... until another episode.. He is very cooperative while in therapy but post therapy his body is responding so negatively. That is very concerning to me and his therapist.

It will depend on the infections you are dealing with and whether you want to go natural or allopathic. Allopathic would be, antibiotics, anti virals, anti parasitic, anti fungal medication, and for inflammation people are using ibuprophen, naproxen, benadryl, etc. If going the natural route, you would use herbs that target the specific infections, and for anti inflammatory things like turmeric, magnesium, chinese skullcap, stinging nettle, quercetin, vitamin c etc etc.

Wow! You know your work! Do you have anyone guiding you with the combinations and dosages? This is so foreign to me!!

It took me years to learn all this information. You need a good practitioner. A functional integrative dr, a pandas specialist, something. And read everything you can get your hands on. Lots of people are seeing amazing gains with homeopathy for these kinds of things too.

How did he get all those services to start with? Has he seen a developmental pediatrician?

Wow that sounds unusual. I did have that in the beginning- it got worse before it got better- and I was told that sometimes happens - but after a while that stopped.
Good luck in finding the right thing.

I’m in NJ, but I’m sure there are some fantastic ones local to you. Do you have a neighborhood facebook or whatsapp group you can ask?

Is there a way to get an FBA (functional behavior analysis) done in a non-public school without an IEP? Actually, does he have an IEP or a 504 since he gets OT? You took your child for evaluations, no diagnosis. Yes, it’s possible something was missed, but there should be steps you can take before spending all that money again. I would find out if you are entitled to an FBA and PBIP (positive behavior intervention plan) from the district, just like you are entitled to an evaluation.

What made the psychologists rule out ADHD? What kind of tests did they do?

Can you hire a shadow to help manage yr child's behavior so he is not expelled?

A shadow should institute an incentive chart for meeting certain behavior goals,
sitting quietly for x amounts of minutes - with the goal of extending the behavior improvements gradually.

A shadow can also supervise the child if he must leave the classroom.

Yes, I know it is expensive. You can get an untrained person for $12-15/hr who would
get training from a behavior expert.
