We just started our 5 year old son on guanfacine/intuniv 1mg at night this week. Saw an immediate positive change in his behavior, much less hyper and impulsive. However he is extremely tired and teacher texted me his eyes are closing in school. I feel like a terrible mother. Anyone experience this with Guanfacine?

Yes! My son has been taking it since pre 1a (hes in 3rd grade now) It takes a week or two for the tiredness to go away but it passes and it really helps him.

Same for us. Sleepy at first but obvious benefits. Are you dosing it at night? I want to say that it took a week or so for the daytime sleepiness to ease up.

We only gave it at night. Your child didn’t have day time sleepiness?

Daytime sleepiness wore off in few weeks for my 6 year old. Best of luck!

Does he take any other meds with it or just guanfacine? How many mg?

How did you get through those first few weeks? I’m feeling so depressed, as if I’m drugging my son. Wondering if it’s safe.

We are using it too. We gave it at night at first because of this issue. (Problem is, child just doesn't sleep, so now we give it in the morning, because this side effect doesn't seem to apply to my child.) I personally think this has been very helpful for us.

I would say give it at bedtime if fatigue is an issue.

We already give it at night only.
