Bulbs and types of fixtures. Sorry if I wasn’t clear. We had a fluorescent long one, whatever it’s called, but it didn’t give much light. Now we have 5 bright small spotlights on a track and I hate it. It’s bright only in those spots and an uncomfortable light. The guy in the store said that is good, but it is not!!

We like LEDs bulbs in 3,000k. Find the highest wattage available.

In LEDs, 14W is 100 watt equivalent and 9W is only 60 watt equivalent.

Use the 14W (3k). Use the 9W (3k) only if your fixture can only handle slightly smaller bulbs.

Don't go higher than 3k for indoors. 4,000k light starts to look blue and is more compatible for commercial spaces.

This looks good.

I like bright white LED strip lighting under the top cupboards that shines straight on to the countertops (as well as something overhead).

Looks like this

Currently I have a large fixture center of kitchen, has 4 long fluorescent bulbs. A row of 3 6” spots on either side. Undercabinet flourescent lights to hit countertop. It’s ok. Functional but could be better.

In middle of planning kitchen remodel and electrician recommended smaller led spots all over the room, under cabinet led strips, and 1 functional light fixture to hang low over island. It sounds about right, I’ll find out when I try it!

LED spots all the way. We have it around and around the entire kitchen/dinette area. A fixture in the center dinette and 2 identical fixtures directly above island. Under and over the cabinet LED strips.

Color is very much a matter of taste. I like 4,000-5,000. 3,000 is more yellow

To add more light, if you have place on top of the cabinets you can put lights up there and they light up the room

Something like this.

Recessed lights, very bright and LED so it doesn't generate heat.

Which option did you decide? You can also add an extender to bring down the bulbs in the spotlights to spread the light more and change them to a different color and wattage

I didn’t yet. I have to speak to my dh and see what they have in the stores. I was actually thinking of this though. Thanks

My kitchen has a lot of different lighting.
Two fixtures, high-hats, lights in the hood, some under the cabinet, and over the cabinets.

We use the over the cabi et lights. Illuminates the room with no shadows. Once in a while I use under the cabinet when I check for bugs.

Also look at the CRI rating. It means color rendering index and is a way of showing how accurately colors look when using that bulb. Lower CRI ratings make food look less appetizing and makes people look grayish. Look for a number over 90.

LED spots (50w) evenly spaced in the ceiling gives a really good light throughout the room. I also have lights above the cabinets which light up the counter tops and add extra light to the whole room because they are high.

You can just replace the bulbs in your current fixtures with the right LED bulbs and it will make a huge difference.
