Hi! Can someone please advise as I’m a first time mom...we got a toddler bed for my 3 year old after transitioning our baby to his crib. It’s really cute and I like that it’s not such a big change from his crib and since we’re still in an apartment with limited space for the next few years, I like that it’s small.
But wondering if anyone else got a toddler bed too or do you feel it’s completely unnecessary and just skip it and go strait for twin sized bed which he’ll need eventually anyway?
Would appreciate any experiences and thoughts! Thanks

I put my kids in cribs until I move them into a regular bed, but if you're tight with space, a toddler bed makes sense.

For one boy, we took off his crib frame and turned it into a toddler bed at 3. He was okay with that. Then we moved him to a bed at age 4.
For his brother, we moved him straight to a twin bed. B"H it was a super easy move.
But they have a big bedroom. Space wasn't a problem B"H.
There's nothing wrong with a toddler bed as long the child isn't too long for it.

I took off the front of my cribs and used those as toddler beds before moving to a regular bed. I had to move my second youngest out pretty early (she was barely 2) because I needed the crib for the next one and she did fine in a twin size (with a bumper bar). Never had the space (small apartment) or $ for a toddler bed.

I used to think that a toddler bed was a purely commercial invention, to make the parents spend money on that and then again on a full sized bed.
To be honest, I still think there is an element of commercialism in it. On the other hand, I see that some children are used to the security of a small cot, and feel very lost when they are suddenly put into a full sized bed. A smaller, toddler bed gives them a degree of security, and makes the transition easier for them.
Others aren't bothered and are very proud of their new big boy/girl bed. A lot depends on the child. Even if your child is the more nervous type, they can settle into a full sized bed. They just might need more reassurance and encouragement for the first week or two.
Of course, available space in a small apartment is another issue. But if space is a problem, a toddler bed is only a temporary solution (until you move!).

We had a convertible crib so we converted to toddler size. But for the next one we just bought a 33" bed (narrower than twin size but big enough for adult visitors) since we were tight on space.

I moved my 5 year old from toddler bed to twin recently and I think I'm going to switch back to toddler bed for another year (or 2- she's petite). My kid's room became so small with the big bed. They can use the space there for another while!
