If someone dropped off a gift, do I send an acknowledging text + a thank you card or just a thank you card?

If it's from a close friend I'd do just a text. A formal thank you card would be a bit weird.

Thank them in person when they drop it off, then send a card.
If you didn't get to see them when they dropped it off, call to thank them, then send a card.
