Yoshiyahu

DH loves it based on who Yoshiyahu was in Tanach, and I'm not opposed, but we'd both like to know the meaning of the name first.

We're also concerned our Rav is going to tell us it's too uncommon for charedi society. Anyone know any charedi Yoshiyahus? (If it's too uncommon my backup name is Shmuel, but I'd have to convince DH first lol.)

יאשיהו
king of Yehuda - he was indeed a good king who got rid of idol worship.
The root יאש though, seems to mean despair. Does that make it not a good name? I don't know. Maybe he came to rule at a time when Hashem was despairing of his people, and he saved the day.
This is completely my speculations. Please ask someone wiser.

I like unusual biblical names though, for what it's worth Smile

יאשיהו (king of Yehuda) is different to ישעיהו (navi)

Which do you mean?

Right, not Yeshaya. That's a different name. I'm talking about Yoshiyahu the king.
