What kind of fruit salad?
I generally just use whatever fresh fruit looks nice and I cut it up. I will also use a canned fruit in its own juices like mandarin segments.
There are more complicated fruit salads like ambrosia but I don't like those.
And there are fruit salads that combine leafy greens with fruit - e.g. spinach and strawberry is common or Chinese chicken salad often uses mandarin segments.

I find two colors of melon are good-it's easy to cut and it tends to make a salad bigger. I would usually add plum, apple, tangerine, grapes-2 colors for mix of colors, passion fruit adds a good flavor as well. Very basic but I don't find it takes long to cut up.

I do kiwi, strawberry, pineapple, mandarins, pomegranate seeds.
Sometimes I add mango and blueberries.
You can basically do any fruit you like.

I make this recipe often and my family really likes it. I sometimes tweek it to my liking.
1 big can mandarins
1 can crushed pineapple
1 can pineapple tidbits
6 kiwis
1 pack frozen strawberries
1 cup orange juice
1 raspberry jello dissolved in 2 cups hot water
I sometimes add pomegranate or blueberries. I sometimes skip the jello and water.
