I wonder if I might have had coronavirus in late January

I had an unusual illness in late January which matched this woman's symptoms almost exactly, except with lower fever and some nausea. I was negative for flu but they didn't test for corona because I hadn't travelled to China.

The first US case was diagnosed on January 19, so the timeline fits.
I'm certainly going to take every precaution, but it's a bit comforting to think that I might have antibodies at this point.
Be well, everybody.

It's also a bit comforting to know that this is not a serious illness among healthy people under age 60 or so.

My mother is over 60 and had similar. Was sick home for 2 weeks with something that looked a lot like the flu. But tested negative for the flu. Doc even gave her tamiflu because it was so much like the flu.
This was mid February.
But tons of ppl were exposed to her and none got sick.

Not sure which flu test you did but my doctor told me that 1/5 people told they don’t have flu from the rapid flu test (nostril swab) are false negatives.

My daughter tested negative for the flu, but they said it was a different name. I don’t recall what it was, but the symptoms were very similar. There are so many viruses out there that are like the flu.

Interesting. Something doesn't add up. If you research the death rate by age for coronavirus, China, S. Korea, and Italy ALL have less than 1% fatalities for people diagnosed between ages 21-50.

True. But I did have a flu shot, and the nausea seemed different to my one previous experience with the flu.
As I said, I will continue to take every precaution I can. But I do think it's possible that it was corona.

There are also multiple coronavirus that humans have gotten in the past.
In January one of my friends son caught it. But a different strain then the current one.

Unfortunately you can get this more than once - it's already been happening in China.

My dh and I both got the flu really really bad in January. I remember finding myself short of breath quite a bit and him being really unwell. I wonder if we had it but we didnt suspect as neither of us had travelled and it was only just arriving in the UK where we live.

More likely, you just had the regular old flu (whatever strain was circulating this year). This was a very busy flu season, pre-corona.

Corona symptoms are generic enough that mid cases look like many other common maladies.

I'm in the high-risk group, and I'm having a very hard time managing my stress. Thoughts racing, not sleeping.
The idea that I had already had it was helping me have some confidence of a benign outcome of all this.
