Thanks

this is a very good one. add more hawaij if you like it spicier (or more chili powder to increase heat).

there is also a beef version of the soup.

You know which Yemenite soup is the best? The one at Hapisgah! That restaurant in Queens! So good. I always wanted that recipe. Everything else seems to taste just exactly like the Hawaijj spice and nothing more.

I had Yeminite soup from a real yeminite family - most amazing thing ever! And it's souper easy! (pun intended)

chicken on the bone (thawed)
water
osem consumme soup mix
garlic powder
onion powder
salt pepper
hawaj spice (use carefully, unless you're used to it!)

Peeled but whole:
onion
garlic
carrots
potato
sweet potato
butternut squash (deseeded)

Minced (although that's for me, traditionally it's cleaned but whole)
fresh cilantro
fresh dill

Cook for 1 hour. Serve with Hilbeh (adds a kick and deserves a whole other post!)

Thank you! How much hawaij for an 8 qt pot - for a beginner 😂?

And I can just throw in vegetables in addition? Like potatoes and carrots..?

For 8 cups of water you can use 2 tsp hawaij and cumin to taste (maybe 1 tsp).

Regarding Hawaij, do it to taste. Start with a sprinkle, taste at the 1 hour mark. A little becomes too much very fast... (the voice of experience lol)

The hawaij we use has cumin in it, so be careful! some folks are sensitive to it, it can be strong especially when fresh. Taste as you go Smile

I make my own hawaij. Yes, it has cumin. I still add more to the soup though for a real authentic tasting soup. I like ethnic food.
