I have heard conflicting things about wether you can get the virus again. Does anyone know anything about this? Interested to hear what people know. Have to make some decisions and can not get any definitive information. (Please don't say ask a doctor because only specialists seem to know and I don't have access to any)

Yes, a percentage of people who get it can likely get it again. What I saw was up to 10% of people could get it again.

Yes, ma'am. The virus can slightly mutate, so someone would "lose" their immunity

They don’t have all these answers yet. From what I read it’s highly unlikely that someone will get it again. But it might have a short immunity. So maybe you can be immune for a few months.

It would be a huge game changer if people would know that they can’t get it again. Basically whoever had it would be able to go out and volunteer in hospitals or help the elderly...

But the truth is that we truly don’t have all the answers. And not knowing is so scary.

But we are in Hashems hand. The way we were last week and the year before...

Thank you for all your answers. One of my kids had it and is now clean. We don't know if he can be home with the rest of us who are all in quarantine together. (Some of us have symptoms but we are being told that we can't easily get tests and just assume that we have it.) We also don't if that means that once we feel better, we are clear and can go out in the world, and if we can then visit older relatives that are isolated because everyone is steering clear of out of caution. No one seems to have any definitive answers about anything.

The past few days, researchers have developed serological testing for COVID19. This test looks for antibodies to the virus in your blood. Initial research confirms that we do develop immunity to COVID19, as with other coronaviruses. For now, reports of "re-infection" (someone who tested positive, and then negative, and then positive again) are likely a testing error. The current testing available does sometimes generate false negatives, and so for now it seems that reports of re infection are probably the result of the middle test being a false negative--this information could change. We are not sure, for the time being, how long this immunity lasts, but we will have more information in the coming weeks / months.

People who have confirmed immunity through serological testing would theoretically be free to go about their lives (and volunteer to help others) as they would not be able to spread the infection. There is also a possibility that a serum made from their antibodies could be a helpful treatment for other patients. Needless to say, this testing will probably be very important to our public health response and our economic recovery going forward. Without this testing I would not assume that you or your children are immune, and would continue to follow directives from your local PH officials.

For those who do not have access to an expert (ie most of us) , I highly recommend the "Public Health On Call" podcast from Johns Hopkins. It's focused entirely on COVID19 and is highly informative. If you prefer to head from frum doctors, Baltimore did a call in panel with doctors from the community about COVID-19 on 3/20, available here: https://baltimorejewishlife.co.....28816
