What are your thoughts on bringing my son for a haircut? I know it’s not essential, but his hair is overgrown and with sefira coming, it will be out of control. I have no idea how to cut hair. What is everyone else doing?

I wouldn’t.
But I’m taking this virus seriously, which means staying home.
Not leaving my house other than daily walks for fresh air because I live in an apartment.
(And mikvah actually...)
So his hair will be overgrown.
Stay home means stay home.
(Even if everyone else is going about their daily lives )

There should be simple tutorials for hair cutting on YouTube.

At least if it won’t come out good he will have time to regrow some of it, before going out in public....
I say, do it yourself.
Lol, reminds me of “Shortganged”. Wasn’t Charlie the one giving himself his own haircut to save a nickel??

Do you have clippers or scissors? Or both. I've never used YouTube. Please just search and find one that you can follow

If there was ever a time for this, it's now. If you fail to cut the hair evenly, it's no big deal. Just wait it out and try again.

I assume that this is like being in prison. When it's over, even if it's during Sefirah, I'm assuming rabbonim will allow haircuts.

Use electric clippers, like Wahl. You may not give a gorgeous cut, but you can't really mess up too badly.

Ask your neighbors for clippers. A 3 is a nice short cut for most boys if you don’t need a chup. I do a 2. Make a line from his temple straight back and up from the back of his ear. That is the payos.

Freak out of you cut his hair like what? Is they anyone else in your house who he will not freak out with? Can you put on a short video to help distract?
What tools do you have at home?

You mean over the top of his head? What happens when you take him to the barber?
Can he cut his own hair?
Or maybe compromise and only trim for length and neck cleaning.

You'll want hair cutting scissors. They are sharper than paper cutters.
Electric shavers might also have the right attachments to take care of hair.
As an aside, if teenage ds has trouble with haircuts, it might be worth it to investigate why that is.

He doesn’t have any trouble with haircuts. You misunderstood. He will freak out if I cut off all his hair using a shaver. Or if he gets a really bad haircut. Pretty normal.

Then promise to only cut for length and cleaning. He should trust you won't just buzz it off. Let him pick the YouTube tutorial you will follow.
