Before each major yom tov, I allow my dd, 11, to browse in our local jewish bookstore for a new book, preferably one that is related to the upcoming yomtov.
This time, well... it's not happening, and she is very disappointed.
Can anyone recommend suitable reading material for a bright preteen? It can be an older classic, or a newer book, no matter.
In the past, she loved the little midrash says series, and similar works- I.e. light, engaging, informative- would be wonderful.
Thank you.

There's a new Artscroll series on the Chumash by R' Nachman Zakon. Shemos just came out.
