No way! We at least have pesach as a break now. With 2 adars the kids would be home for an extra month before pesach.

They're home anyway, what difference does it make if its before, during or after Pesach.

Yes, it would be great to flatten the curve a bit before Pesach. Maybe even get to the point of lessening isolation.

I once attended a shiur discussing what happens if the rabbis make an error in declaring the date of a holiday. Even if you can prove they're wrong, you follow the rabbis. So, presumably, they could put off Pesach. But I doubt they would.

Doing that this year would put Pesach in the middle of May. Way after chodesh ha'Aviv (in Israel).

...but it would hopefully take away a lot of the stress people are feeling now with making pesach, kids home & being sick, out of work bla bla bla. Refer to the million imamother threads if you don’t know what I’m talking about Wink

It might just drag it out.

We don't know how long this will last.

I'm pretty sure it needs to be declared before Purim.

Yes, I didn't want to say so because I really have no idea of the source, but I have a very vague memory of what is probably a mishna saying that one could not לעבר את החודש בחודשו (declare an extra month during the month).

As I said, I really can't remember the source, but maybe someone else knows it.

This really happened! Somebody wanted the Chief Rabbinate to add an extra Adar to give everyone time to get ready for Pesach properly this year:

You know there was a petition submitted to Israel's Supreme Court, to force the Chief Rabbinate to declare a leapyear.

The Supreme Court threw the petition out.

I wish it were Erev Shavuos. Quarantine with cheesecake would’ve been a joy!

And he's from Itamar. Hiding The supreme court laughed it out, as they should. We'd need a Sanhedrin to make it a reality.

HOw does that make any kind of difference? Kids, in Israel, will have been home for two weeks come friday and by the time pesach comes around, a whole month. I am 100% sure they are not going back to school after pesach, so what difference does it make if the time is before pesach or after?
