When my daughter was a 22 pound 2 yr old, she was taking 2000 mg of vitamin c. Her doctors at the NIH were fine with it. They said her body will eliminate whatever it doesn't need.

I was also recommended by a rav years ago to take mega doses of vitamin C to help lessen bleeding as far as niddah.
It's true the body can eliminate excess BUT all that acid has to still process through the stomach and gestational tract. I developed terrible stomach pain and my Endoscopy showed I almost had an ulcer and I damaged the inner linings of my stomach.
I am certain this was because of the Vitamin C.
I had to be on very strong anti-acid medications after for many months until I finally got back to "normal" although I don't think my stomach ever returned to quite as good as it was before.
I definitely would not give my grand dad mega doses of anything.

High levels of C and Zinc can cause birth defects if you are pregnant. Do not do this without a doctors supervision!!!

Rabbanim are not generally qualified to advise on vitamin protocols.

Thanks for your concern, and I mean that sincerely.

I discussed it with my dr before I started the regimen. He thought it was fine to follow for a few months, not more.

You cant have high levels of vit c. it doesnt stay in the blood. The body uses what it needs and gets rid of the rest.
AND Vit c does NOT cause birth defects. It should not be taken in high doses (unless otherwise directed by a MD) during the first trimester. after that there is no longer threat to baby.

To clarify, EXTREMELY high doses in VERY early pregnancy can (in rare instances) cause miscarriage.

No evidence of birth defects.
