Silence
Stretching
For miles
Cities
Streets
Towns
Now
Seem to have
Turned into graveyards
It’s like one of those horror shows
Where you wake
To an empty world
With you
As the sole remaining human
Houses
In pristine condition
Cars parked in driveways
Shuttered storefronts
Deserted highways
Not a soul in sight
Nature
Is in full bloom
Oblivious
To humanity’s destruction
Or perhaps
It is glad
To be left alone
For once
To grow
To flourish
Without being polluted
Cut down
I welcomed the silence
At first
Relieved
To not be running after
What doesn’t matter
Relishing
The lack of interaction
The absence of sound
But now
It’s beginning to feel
Like the world is in a coma
And may never wake up
It’s hard to remember it
Once being alive
visions are fading fast
In the fight for survival
It’s hard to see past today
Tomorrow
It’s hard to hold on
And not get pulled back
Into the dark abyss
Where nothing matters
