If people weren't using it as an insult, then the people whose name it is would have nothing to feel awkward about! It's a fine name but when it's used instead as an adjective it's generally not in a kind way. I mean I can think of way worse things to call someone but why not just be nice instead.

In my circles the derogatory term would be a frumack. Or chnyok. Or the adjective would be Messed.

Sounds good to me, but at my age I'll take anything I can get!
So now the name "frummie" is ironic for me, because I'm one of the most "out of the box, live and let live" people I know.

As your name it is good. As calling someone who its not their name, it is typical a criticizing usage.
