I never understand why we can’t do laundry. I mean, most of the time my cleaning lady does it, which means I don’t even do it myself! (Obviously this year is different). Why is it okay to cook and clean and kill ourselves that way, but not okay to have clean clothes?

My kids are totally out of shabbos shirts.

Laundry *used to be* a huge, labor-intensive undertaking.

But now, with washing machines? Easy-peasy. I don't get it.

For the kids it's permitted!

My Rav told us that we can do laundry for very young children, for anything that has been pooped/peed on, and for ourselves as the babies caregivers, since there is no way for us to prevent those catastrophic messes which babies/toddlers do. (Yalkut Yosef)

As for why the halacha exists: the YY explicitly states that it's out of concern that people would put off doing laundry until chol hamoed, and then treat it lightly. I believe he's quoting the Shulchan Aruch there.

You may wash what you need for YT. They're not meant to to shirtless. (And you can wash anything for children.)

First of all, we aren't supposed to do cleaning that's like killing ourselves. We can only wash the floor lightly, if at all.

2ndly, your boys need more shirts.

My Rav said young babies only, not kids who don’t have toileting issues.

Honestly I’m dreading Friday.

I still have issues with this halacha.
My shabbis robe is not soiled.but.not.fresh either. It would enhance my yom tov so much more if it was fresh.
Another grievence is that I bought my kids one nice outfit and I would rather wash and use second days than pull some old Shmatas out of the closet. This halcha needs to be clarified for our generation I think.

Ask your LOR. Usually it is better to buy on chol hamoed than wash. But near me no clothing stores are even open so we have no choice. And my little kids outgrew some of their clothes so not like we have "extras". This shutdown wasn't planned. So I did lots of washes. Especially given we wash our entire set of clothes each time we go outside due to Covid 19 (grocery stores for basics not just a splurge or "I feel like eating X"- potatoes, onions, apples etc, I had to get my medication from the pharmacy... All necessary).

Plus I have kids under 6 so they get really messy really quickly.

When we asked (years ago) we were told that if we have to do baby laundry anyways we can throw in other people's clothes as well.
