People don't realize if they were never in that situation.
It is traumatizing to grow up your whole life thinking you were poor, only to discover your parents were not at all and just saving on your back!

This is my situation as well. I don't know if I would call it traumatic. That's kind of degrading the meaning of the word. I've experienced plenty of other things that traumatized me, but this wasn't one of them.
It definitely creates resentment, though.

I think the word trauma is what's throwing people off here.
I also dont think its as simple as saying that its the parents attitude. There are often kids from the same family who are affected differently.
The real issue that is apparent is not that people feel resentment because their parents were poor, its that they feel their parents prioritized other things (saving etc) over their kids feelings and the social impact.
