Is there a specific date when we’ll know whether or not camps will open, and/or if daycamps will be running in N.Y.?
I understand that we know nothing yet but wonder if Cuomo or anyone gave a deadline when they will announce.

Assuming not .
Lockdown in NJ has been extended through June 6. Once lockdown is lifted there are multiple stages of reopening and day camps are the last stage.

How are the 38 states that opened up and relaxed rules doing?

This from a camp director:

They were given such strict guidelines to reopen that it probably won't be worth it. Six feet between each camper's sleeping space, no pools, SD at mealtime, no contact sports. Basically not feasible.

I don’t see how a girls’ camp can open with a complete lockdown. Husbands coming up for the weekends , women going to the mikvah , what if someone needs the doctor or hospital chas vshalom ?

What’s the difference between girls camps and boys camps?

Even if this is feasible it sounds so depressing. Not worth the expense. Oh well! Guess we’re doomed for this summer....

In boys' camps, the families are there for the whole summer as usually it is the man that is the camp employee .

In many girls' camp, the woman is the camp employee, and the husbands work in the city during the week and come up to camp just for the weekend.

It would be impossible for a camp to operate unless it effectively sealed itself in for the duration and people neither entered or left - or if they left they wouldn't be allowed back in.

A married woman would decide whether she would accept a position knowing that she would not see her husband for the duration.

I have no crystal ball but how else could they operate unless they did everything possible to ensure that no one infectious was able to have contact with anyone in the camp while it was in session.

Exactly
Which is why there is no way to open a camp.

What if someone needs medical help? Any time a camper needs outside medical help, they and the staff member accompanying them are booted from the camp for rest of the summer?

What about minyanim in girls’ camps? The usual setup is that during the week the men on promises drive to the closest minyan if there isn’t one on campus grounds but on Shabbos there is a minyan .

I know that plenty of people are Davening without minyanim now , but by that point it seems that minyanim will be permitted and I can’t imagine that the men in camp will be okay davening without a minyan.

How will the camps get deliveries? Supplies? Food?

What if the camp needs an outside repair man or maintenance that cannot be handled by the on site maintenance crew?

(Besides the fact that I can’t imagine how many emotionally healthy women would accept a camp job knowing that they (and their children) won’t see their husbands for 8-9 weeks.

Oh please . He's not a dictator. I dont understand why people think that just because it's almost camp time /summer time we can just go back to normal life. There is still a dangerous virus going around . When did camps become essential ? Just because it's summer doesnt mean the virus will disappear. . We need to be a little bit patient

In a lot of girls camps the married staff both have on-site jobs for the duration of the summer.
also, camps are much more important for the boys, especially post bar mitzvah. They will find a way to keep the guidelines in order to open.
It'll be tough for a lot of kids to not see their parents for the entire summer at all. Homesickness will be really tough. maybe they will do a shortened season (4-6 weeks instead of 9).
Also, it'll be an issue for boys who are becoming bar mitzvah in the summer, they won't be able to go back to camp after the bar mitzvah?
But I guess some of the camps are gonna do whatever they can to keep to the rules.

You think they might open for boys and not for girls?

Looks like there won't be camp for boys AND girls. At least that's what the Rosenberg's claim. They can't see how to make it work financially if a bunkhouse that usually houses 36 kids will now be allowed only 12. That's what they said.

Or camp directors will rally very hard to be able to open and promise from here to tomorrow to keep everyone on lockdown. And then cheat cheat cheat. This one leaving for a family thing. That one just going to mikva. This one going to his bungalow for just one day because he had covid in April and his co-counselor and his family so what's the difference. And then all these one time exceptions across a bunch of different camps will be the cause of inflammatory imamother threads here there and everywhere. Oh and maybe deaths but who cares about those anymore, as long as there is camp.
