Won't understand what? That people don't want to quarantine in their own homes? Doing what needs to be done during hard times is what separates people. You can gain or lose olam haba in a moment. Giving the virus to someone who ends up on a vent or dead isn't as important as being in a vacation rental with a pool because it is more comfortable?

FYI - I live in a place that is a frozen tundra at least 8-9 months out of the year. Sneeze and spring is over, blink twice and there goes summer. Many people looked forward to escaping the miserable weather this Pesach but they cancelled their plans anyway, because their comfort was less important than pikuach nefesh.

So no, I don't understand.

Sorry, until you experience tiny Brooklyn apartment living with children and no porch or windows to the street, you really don't have a right to judge. Al tadin es chavrcha ad shetagia lmkomo. You have not been in my place, you can not judge my choices. You have not experienced this level of claustrophobia and chaos. You have not experienced that feeling of not a single square inch of quiet (no, not even the one small bathroom).

For the record, I didn't go to Florida, I can't afford it. But I can't see a single reason not to. And this self righteous "stay home and deal" when you have absolutely no clue what this life is like is just infuriating.

From what I read, and I agree with it is that frum communities need to develop elsewhere, even if they are very small. What you are describing is not just horrendous, it's a human rights violation. Jews would be better off anywhere else, even if they had a minyon in someone's basement and a Yeshiva in someone else's basement.
As far as Florida, there are closer, cheaper and safer places. Just avoid those 4 foot lizards in Georgia. They eat everything.

Roughly 5% of residents — about 420,000 people — left New York City between March 1 and May 1, an analysis of multiple sources of aggregated smartphone location data shows.

In the very wealthiest blocks, residential population decreased by 40% or more. https://nyti.ms/2WzC8I9

https://twitter.com/nytimes/st.....?s=20

It says allot.

Be very very very careful when deciding for yourself who gets olam haba or not. Also be humble. Realize that you don't know everything. Even when it comes to what risks are real and reasonable and what isn't.

Last but not least. Fargen.

You go on and on that you aren't jealous. I'll believe you. Or try to.

Enjoy your yard and your space. And decide for yourself what you need to do for your olam haba. And let others build their own olam haba...

Your walking a fine line there when you start talking about other people's olam haba and what they can gain or lose in an instant.

And give other Jewish people the benefit not of the doubt but that they're aren't stupid and they aren't selfish and they are trying to keep their families safe the ways they know how.

You don't seem to be describing the home of a wealthy person who can afford to rent a big home with a private pool. I am not sure that profile fits with the demographics of NYers currently quarantining in Florida - many of those people do have large homes and comfortable living arrangements (like in the stats quoted in previous comment). They aren't living in a tiny apartment packed in chaos? Maybe the people who are leaving their already luxurious homes should pay for those in small apartments to move to vacation rentals in Florida as chesed instead of going himself?

You're welcome to offer them the opportunity but that's a little socialist.
Many of the posters here who are "escaping" to Florida or upstate NY or anywhere really are escaping the chaos of a tiny apartment

Nope. Ppl with 2 bedroom apartments got homes in Orlando for 100$ a night. It’s not free but it’s not only for the rich.

Rentals are cheap. Don't need to be majorly wealthy to afford it. Some ppl own their own homes there and went.

My friend lives in a tiny Brooklyn apartment with 6 kids and she’s now renting a large home in Florida for pennies. The rates are cheap because all the parks are closed and I’m so happy for her that she has space and a pool. Her husband is working remotely and she is by no means rich. While it sounds glamorous it’s no vacation, it’s just a way for her to maintain her sanity at a reasonable price, she could never afford to take her family to Florida when prices are normal. She also drove and brought along frozen meats, a portable grill, etc. Quit judging.

It may not only be for the rich but it is for those who are careless with their money. And ignorant to state rules. And an immature mentality with a lack of ability “Try” and “cope”.

Even $100 a night - that is $700 a week. That’s $2800 a month.
They’re still paying rent / mortgage here.
They have to pay for food and in Orlando it’s WAY more expensive than here.
They may be able to work from home or their husbands are driving/flying down for weekends.

Even if they’re saving on no cleaning lady.
Even if they’re saving on no childcare (school is still charging).
Even if.
Orlando is costing them money. In a time when most people are not making much.

I take comfort knowing I’m strong. I got this. I didn’t stop coping or go weak or behave selfishly.

People can do what they want but they can’t try and convince everyone it’s right when it’s really not. At all.

We scrimp and save and exhaust ourselves to visit my MIL in Israel when there is a family wedding.
Just car fare to and from airport and to wedding and to kosel and to harmenuchos is a killer for us.
We stay with MIL the entire time. IT IS NOT A SIGHTSEEING, VACATION TIME.
When we come back home, we sleep for about a week.

in Arizona. New HAmpshire, Florida, Upstate, Switzerland, Austria, Cancun, or whatever.....
why do non New yorkers poke their heads into newyorkers business??

If you are carrying lethal viruses int someone's state, you bet it's their business!
