He is artistic, and enjoys building.
I want something that will take a long time to make that he can enjoy after
something he won't need my help with because I have lots of other kids that are demanding attention

any ideas?

There are some pretty intricate Lego sets that even adults enjoy.
However, they are not cheap.

thank you all - keep them coming. He actually built a shtender (with my husb) recently and just completed a diamond art. He would love lego..but not sure I want to spend that much. When he's bored he drives me bezerk...

My 12yo DS loves knex and it is way cheaper than lego. I would suggest buying a large set that comes with a book with lots of different plans. There are lots to choose from between $25-40

He also really enjoyed this set

(Thank you to the poster who linked to it before Pesach)
There were a couple of pieces I had to help with, but very minimal and it took him a good few hours.

My 9yr old and 14 yr old were busy building bird houses and then they hung them on trees in our yard. He could paint and decorate them too if he’d like .
My DS was inspired by a library book on birdhouses that he took out a while ago. I’m sure that there are you tube videos with instructions of how to build. My DH bought 6” wooden boards for 1.86 a piece that are meant to be for a picket fence. They cut up those boards and each board was enough for an entire bird house.

Another vote for diamond art. We’re not a huge crafts family, but my son loves this.

someone mentioned the cheaper ones were being sold at KRM. The more expensive ones, the Judaica stores should have.

Learning to play an instrument, learning to draw realistically & paint on canvas. Learning a new language. Studying the globe, there are electronic ones with info on each space.

Edible perler beads with cut up colored twizzlers.

He can organize a carnival, prize store, make believe hachnosses sefer torah, a daycamp, a voting campaign, a mock wedding, put up a performance with costumes & props etc with his younger sibs.

There’s a new craft from wise elk with building using real bricks. You can get online or toys to discover sells them. They have big projects which are more costly and smaller ones for 4.99. It feels very real and makes it more exciting
