Kriah specialist?
Tutor (not professionally trained?)
Parent using a kriah workbook?
Practice and more practice?

Should I try to get a formal diagnosis of dyslexia or something else or does it not really matter?

Thank you.

If the student has dyslexia, there's a school that specializes and the student can go for a year of two and then return to mainstream setting. They work with the orton gillingham method. You would need a diagnoses. They help you sue the DOE to pay the extra part of tuition.

What is the name of the school?
Thank you.

We tried everything you mentioned including testing & diagnosis. Nothing worked.
In the end we took DS for 3 months to machon l’kriah in geula. It was magic.
I believe they now have a branch in Lakewood?

Ohr Halimud the Multi-Sensory Learning Center in Brooklyn. Speak to them first before going for an evaluation to make sure it's done in a way that's helpful to the child's case with the DOE.

For help with kriah, Rabbi Mechel Rapaport. He is now teaching through zoom.
He is currently my youngest son's Pre 1A Rebbi and he also taught my older sons in Pre 1A. He has many years of experience and has much patience with children. My son was struggling with kriah and thanks to Rabbi Rapaport he is now reading. If your son needs help or practice with kriah, I would recommend contacting him (Pre1a313@gmail.com).

I had a free educational psychological evaluation with the DOE with my son. They said he’s not dyslexic, which was a relief I guess. The morah also said no cognitive impairment. So now we just practice and practice.

English also took forever but now it seems like it’s slowly happening. We went through the BOB books for English which are a very good set.
