Which accredited colleges offer legitimate online degrees? My friend wants to study urban studies, civil planning, etc. But can only do it online. Its required for a raise at her job.

I thought that online degrees & for profit schools are a big no no in the professional world? That it might even negatively impact your job search?

Almost all colleges have an online presence nowadays.
Just keep away from obvious for profit schools like Phoenix.
Also, sometimes someone just needs that piece of paper (typically for the reason OP stated). There are three state colleges that help you with this - Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak.

Almost all schools have fully online or hybrid degree programs now.
I'm working on mine through CUNY. Their online division is called the School for Professional Studies. If state funding is an issue, she should pay attention to where schools are actually located. I did my associates through Touro University Worldwide, but because it is based in California I couldn't get NY state funding.

My daughter's cousin got her Psyd in school psychologist from Phoenix and got an excellent job with a local public school district.
I think the CalState system has online degrees in Urban Planning type degrees. some of the programs are hybrid though, so read carefully. My guess is that nowadays, all State Colleges will have online degree programs.
